Yes, this is a perfect description of our Congress on addressing gun laws. In fact, the Wikipedia definition fits their actions exactly.
cowardice – a trait wherein fear and excess self-concern override doing or saying what is right, good, and of help to others or oneself in a time of need-it is the opposite of courage.
I personally do not get why is it legal for any civilian to have war weaponry? How far does it go? Oh, I believe that we stop at bombs and tanks. But that’s probably because the National Rifle Association has no interest in bombs.
For reasons unknown to me, our Congress has been wedded to the NRA; talking about commitment. They don’t dare step out of line of what is expected. Is all of this just for a letter rating from the NRA? Does the letter rating matter that much? What does it do for them?
I say this because we have had horrific mass shootings, including the killing of elementary school children, 5 and 6 years old. But as horrific as that was, it did not move them beyond a moment of silence.
Instead they say arm everyone. In fact, they hold to this myth that did not go well this past week. They say “the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” Well, the good guys with many guns did not stop the one bad guy with a gun without twelve officers being shot, 5 of which were fatal, and 7 injured.
Get some courage Congress. You can do this. You answer to the people not the NRA.

Musings and My Two Cents 
We all must continue to pray for those families with such tragic losses. We must pray for our national leaders to go beyond conversation. We must pray to know one another on a deeper level. Our country is so divided now….reminds me of being in the south in the 60’s. Now, with the speed of social media, we are provided with pre rehearsed sound bytes from our leaders. I pray for a coming together of our people and the entire church community. It is the only answer I know. Thank you for sharing your walk of faith!

Amen Rick. I am praying for our nation, that our leaders would be granted the gift of repentance, that God would raise up men to preach the I compromised gospel. Only when we look to God will change be made.

Gosh such a loaded topic I fear will take ages to resolve when we need action right now. I happen to agree with both points on this topic. We need a better system of monitoring who can and who cannot buy guns. But I fear that too may fail. We as citizens do need ways to protect ourselves, and our homes. Yes a small handgun not an automatic weapon will suffice. I could go on about this topic but it’s a debate that’s been years in the making.

Keep those loaded topics flowing. People need to be aware and able to vent these issues out. And yet, again today, more horrific gun violence in a court room setting, killing those sworn to protect us. Will it ever stop!

The young man who slaughtered the children and staff was turned away from purchasing a weapon. That worked. What did not work was the fact that he was mentally ill and his mother kept guns (locked) in the house (and they did target practice). He killed his mother first. Guns are not the villain, humans are. The murderer in Texas, would have found a way to obtain a weapon too. More focus needs to be placed on monitoring those who appear to have mental illness – and – we need to learn to love *everyone as Jesus commanded.

I am not opposed to having a gun for protection, or guns for hunting, but why would I need a semi-automatic weapon? Where would I use it, for hunting? Would I shoot a deer with an automatic weapon? I think not. But I suppose it is perfectly okay to shoot people with them. Regarding mental illness, there will never be a way to track people with illnesses because a lot of them are not mentally ill. Sometimes people just go off the plantation. This issue will never be resolved because I think we are too wedded to our positions without being open to see other options. So for now I am done. I have nothing. This is truly a case for God.

You have valid points. There are those, that are experienced with weapons that feel the need and right to them to protect their own. Goodness knows why, but they do. Those are not the people committing crimes. I don’t have an answer, I know there are different sides to the discussion. It is discouraging.

What would happen to me if an intruder comes into my house and I shoot them with an automatic assault weapon? I believe that I would be absolutely justified to shoot with a hand gun, even a shot gun, I suppose but an automatic weapon?
