It’s Up to Us

We have been saying, rather, I have been saying along with many that Donald J. Trump does not have the temperament to lead our nation. Last night, at the Democratic National Convention, Kristen Kavanaugh, former Marine Corps captain said it all. She said that “this election is not just about Donald Trump’s judgment, it is about our own.”

I agree. I cannot see supporting someone who displays bully tactics, a lack of appreciation for being informed, and failure to appreciate the impact of what he says. Just yesterday, he urged the Russians to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails. I agree our vote is not about  Trump’s judgment, but ours.

But let me say this, I am only speaking about his positions, or statements which demonstrate a lack of judgment for the office of the president. My statements do not in any reflect a personal hate against Mr. Trump. In fact, I was reminded of this last night in Bible study that we ought to pray for both candidates. That is the right thing to do. Pray that they both see, hear and believe the light of the gospel.

Let me also remind you, that I have been a Democrat my entire adult life. I was proud of the optimism, the patriotism demonstrated last night, and this week. Even though I am now leaning Independent as neither party fully meets, and probably could never meet where I am; however,  John Kasich was close.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves ad pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14 KJV

Portions of that scripture, have been repeated during the course of the DNC convention. I pray we hear it, and do it.

So it is up to us. I do believe that out of the two candidates, Mrs. Clinton is more prepared to lead, even though I totally disagree with some of the DNC  immoral planks in their platform. She does have a long track record of fighting for the disenfranchised. She has political experience, although, some would disqualify that. I just happen to think that that is important.

  1. Hey

Well said. I loved the title- It’s Up to Us. It says it all. Be it about our judgement to vote and be it about taking any decision or about making up something in our mind, it is entirely Up to Us.

Kudos, fantastically written. I loved the entire article, but what I loved the most was that you quoted from The Bible and said- we ought to pray for both the candidates.

  2. I’m behind on my Blog reading. ^^’ You captured my view quite well, although I have only recently moved more to the Left (my first democrat vote cast for Obama in his first term). If Trump is the GOP leader, I simply cannot in good conscience continue supporting that party. As you noted, neither party represents my values well, and I too was a Kasich supporter. I still think if he had led a third party, he would have found a ground swell of support. You are right, Christians must be careful not to let political opposition transition into hatred. We all need to be mindful of Nietzsche’s famous quote: “Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster… for when you gaze long into the abyss. the abyss gazes also into you.”

    1. Thanks. I understand because I’m behind on my reading too and was just thinking that I need to somehow apologize to those I follow. Trying to finalize my post which woke me up around 3:30 this morning.
