Alabaster Box of Gratefulness

For this beautiful Saturday, I am sharing one woman’s story of perfume.

My favorite fragrance to wear is Michael Kors, the original. It’s my signature fragrance. I’ve worn it for years, and have tried to find a new fragrance, but haven’t been able to identify one that I like as much. It’s expensive, but may not be as valuable as the perfume shared in the following account.

“And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to |eat|. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus |was eating| in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him, weeping; and began to wash his feet with her tears, and did wipe them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.” Luke 9:36-38 KJV

The response of the watching Pharisees was critical because they figured Jesus should have known what kind of woman she was. Jesus responds in verses 40-50, telling them that because she had been forgiven of many sins, she loved much. This was why she felt it appropriate to anoint him with her perfume. She was grateful. We too, can offer up prayers of praise and thankfulness like a special fragrance to the Lord.

“May my prayer be like special perfume before You. May the lifting of my hands be like the evening gift given on the altar in worship.” Psalm 141:2 New Life Version

I hope that this song prompts a renewed gratefulness.
