What I Read Today…

Daily Bible Reading for March 14, 2020

Today my Bible reading plan covered Deuteronomy, Chapters 8-10.

In Chapter 8, the key word is REMEMBER as they are about to enter the Promised Land. The point of Moses’ rehearsing everything they have gone through beginning from their great deliverance from Egypt by God with a mighty hand is that they remember who it was that delivered them, who fed them, provided care for them, that they are not their own, that they all their tests in the wilderness was to test them so that they would know how frail they are, and look to him, obey him.

One key verse in this chapter is verse 18:

“You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers.”

In Chapter 9, the key focus Moses raises to the Israelites that it is not because of their righteousness that God is giving them this land, but for the sake of his name.

The key verse in this chapter is verse 5:

“Not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart are you going in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations the LORD your God is driving them out from before you, and that he may confirm the word that the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

In Chapter 10, One Question, One Answer found in verses 12-14 as Moses addresses the Israelites:

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God, with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today four your good?”

God’s mercy, faithfulness, and patience is seen in these chapters, but his righteous jealousy is not silent. One verse states that as a man disciplines his son, the LORD your God disciplines you. Our God is a good Father. He loves those he chastens.

Let’s read the Book!
