Daily Bible Reading  for March 11, 2020

Today my reading plan takes me to the book of Deuteronomy. Deuteronomy is the fifth and last book of the Pentateuch written by Moses.

In Chapter 1, as Moses rehearses to the Israelites all that they have gone through before they enter the Promised Land, again God is seen as a Promise Keeper.

“See, I have set the land before you. Go in and take possession of the land that the LORD swore to you fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their offspring after them.” Deuteronomy 1:8

The interesting thing about them being given the land is that God tells them to take possession of it, which means that they had to do it by force because it was occupied. God wants them to work for it, fight for it, though in his sovereignty he had given them the victory.

God uses past deliverances by him with his mighty hand to buoy up their faith. He promises to be with them.

“Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you…” Deuteronomy 1:29b

In Chapter 2, as Moses continues to rehearse God’s faithfulness in their journey to the Promised Land, God is also seen as their Provider. Forty years and they lacked nothing. God’s righteousness in judgment is also seen in his response to the Israelites’ faithlessness, grumbling, and rebellion.

God is a God of faithfulness, might, sovereignty, righteousness, and justice.
