What I Read Today…

Daily Bible Reading for March 25, 2020

Today my Bible reading plan covers Joshua, chapters 9-11.

In Chapter 9, Joshua, like most of us, learns a hard lesson found in Proverbs 3:5 – “… lean not to your own understanding.” Joshua fails to consult the LORD when approached by men disguising themselves and claiming to have journeyed from a far country to avoid being destroyed.

“So the men took some of their provisions, but did not ask counsel of the LORD. And Joshua made covenant with them and made a covenant with them, to let them live, and the leaders of the congregation swore to them.” Vs. 14-15

In Chapter 10, Joshua is called upon by the Gibeonites with whom they were in covenant to help them as five Amorite kings were coming against them. God gives Joshua assurance that the will give them into his hand. God’s sovereignty over nature and man, and his battle prowess is seen, for he answers Joshua’s prayer and makes the sun stand still, he caused the kings and their armies to panic and flee Israel, and he hails large stones from heaven to kill them.

“There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD heeded the voice of a man, for the LORD fought for Israel.” Vs. 14

In Chapter 11, Joshua continues is conquest to possess the land, and defeats Northern Canaan because God gave it into Israel’s hand as promised.

“So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.”

Obedience is key in obtaining victory. God is faithful and sovereign over all things. Nothing is too hard for him. He will not forsake his own.  The people of God are his treasured possession, a royal priesthood. We must honor the King!

Let’s read the Book!
