What I Read Today…

Daily Bible Reading for March 22, 2020

Today my Bible reading plan covers Deuteronomy, Chapters 32-34, closing it out and includes Psalm 91.

In Chapter 32, Moses recites the words of the song to the Israelites. In this song, Moses calls heaven and earth to be his witness, then he extols the faithfulness and goodness of God and contrasts it with the faithlessness and crookedness of the Israelites.

There are several key passages, the first with a promise that includes me.

“So I will make them jealous with those who are no people, I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.” Verse 21b

“If they were wise, they would understand this; they would discern their latter end.” Verse 29

“See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal.” Verse 39

In Chapter 33, Moses blesses the tribes of Israel before he dies.

“Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD.” Verse 29a

In Chapter 34, God is faithful, even in his discipline. When Moses did not follow God’s instructions to speak to the rock but instead struck the rock for water, God told him for that infraction, he would not enter the Promised Land. God still used Moses after that in a mighty way, but though it was a long journey, his punishment remained. Moses died serving the LORD, and God buried Moses where no one knows.

“And there has not arisen a prophet since in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.” Verse 10

Psalm 91 is ascribed to Moses, who describes God as his refuge and his fortress, the one in whom he places his trust.

Even today, especially today, we can learn from Moses and the Israelites how faithful, wise and good our God is. We can know that he is our refuge, so we need not fear.

Let’s read the Book!
