Most of us are used to hearing “Recalibrating” when our GPS detects that we have gone off course. This means that at some point we must do a “U-Turn,” in order to get back on track. When we don’t, our GPS will keep recalibrating from whichever point we are to get us on track to reach our planned destination.
I know that sometimes we may ignore it and think we know better. At times, we may just want to throw our phones out the window. We already know that we are lost. We just no longer trust its directions. So we’d rather set out on our own.
Perhaps, you didn’t know this, but we have done that before. We chose to set out on our own. We, being Adam, the first man created, that is. Adam did not trust God’s directions. So, he set out on his own plunging everyone after him onto the same road, off course. Yes, because of Adam, we are all born off course and need to recalibrate to get on course.
Thankfully for us, God already had a plan for just this situation. He knew that after man’s first sin of disobedience, we would never be able to perfectly keep his law, and our fellowship with him would be forever broken. Why? Because God created us and he expects obedience, just like a parent expects obedience from their child. When the child disobeys, it usually results in some form of punishment. Unlike the parent, God cannot tolerate sin because he is both holy and just; so when Adam disobeyed his commandment, his disobedience (sin) brought on death for all mankind.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Romans 6:23 KJV
How do we recalibrate? How do we get back on course? What is our U-Turn? Our only way back on course to restored fellowship with God is through the life of his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was able to live in the flesh among men in perfect obedience to God the Father. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice with his life and death on the cross, being raised on the third day, thereby paying for the sins for all who would believe in him.
That is our way back on course. Jesus said:
I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
I know there are many people that believe in many gods, and many ways. Some don’t believe in God at all. I also recognize that this message of one way sounds rather exclusive, but since God is Sovereign and Creator, he only determines the way.
If you happen to be on the wrong course, today would be a great day to recalibrate.
…Today if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts,… Hebrews 3:14b KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16, 17 KJV
I have needed this many times. I believe we all have to analyze and revisit this subject.

I had read this article when I posted mine with a similar topic, but for some reason I didn’t connect the dots. Perhaps your article prompted me to write mine. But I assure you I wasn’t intentionally copying you. 😳 I just noticed it today while perusing your Blog.

No problem! I believe they both approached different angles. 😊

Yes. I was chatting with another blogger when the image of a compass came to my mind and I typed it out quickly not thinking about the “calibrating” part until I titled it before posting. I would have definitely included a link to your post as inspiration if I had remembered your title. And then another commentator on my post sent me a link to her post about GPS. We are all connected!

Sometimes it’s so hard to stay the course! Whew. I feel like I’m losing the battle the majority of the time. I have let my emotions get the best of me…thanks for the reminder that I can always return God to get back on track.

Thank you and be encouraged! At least you recognize it! Only God can empower us. I know it. He has done it in me.
