His Restraining Mercy

I know that I haven’t posted anything political lately; and frankly, this post may make some of my friends and family uneasy, perhaps even mad; although, I hope not.

Last night, like many, I watched the Presidential Speech to the Congress. If I had been off the planet for a while, and just returned without knowing there was an election, I actually could have figured out that  we have a Republican president. How would I know? Just by watching the congress applaud response. It happens regardless of how unifying and visionary the message, one side will clap with gusto, while the other side looks either disinterested or even mad. It really doesn’t matter the message. Really.

President’s Trump speech last night, frankly, I agreed with most of what he said; especially, the focus on jobs, taking care of our veterans, building our infrastructure, and return of American companies. And yes, the Supreme Court pick.

As I was praying this morning, God’s restraining mercy came to mind. Sure, I did not vote for President Trump. You know, I have had much to say about how unqualified he was, but God…

You see, you all know that my worldview is framed by the Word of God, the Bible. The way I see it, the path our country has been taking, has been in direct opposition to the Word of God. We have been condoning as good, what God has said is sin; we have been calling evil good, and good evil. History has shown, there is nothing but judgment coming, though delayed, when we ignore what God says.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20 ESV

-Abortions, same-sex marriage, transgender and same-sex relationships normalization- We have allowed the culture to dictate what is right, what is good. And no, I am not afraid of, nor have fear of, nor do I hate those who have, or are in this camp. I recognize we are all God’s image bearers, regardless of how we mar his image.

I am so very grateful for God’s restraining mercy. I believe, had Hillary Clinton won, there would have been no bottom to our anti-God positions. However, history tells us that this is not new. It has happened all throughout time; even in the beginning. In fact, early in our world history, we made God sorry that he created us.

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. Genesis 6:5-7 KJV

That resulted in the first and only worldwide flood. I see the election of Mr. Trump, the Republican ticket, as God’s restraining mercy; and for that, I’m so very grateful, and humbled.

“It is because of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.”

  1. I too, see God’s greater work in what is transpiring. With fear and trepidation, I voted this election and God has shown His great ability and God is not to be scorned or laughed at.
May I ever place myself in the hand of God and not rely upon my own abilities.
