A Fresh Awe

If we are no longer overwhelmed by the mercy of God, we need a fresh awe. If we are no longer captivated by his grace toward us, we need a fresh awe.

It’s easy to get bogged down with our daily routines, the cares of life, especially all the things we feel we need to accomplish; but I think it would do us good to pause and consider the greatness of our God.

God, who created all things, after his creation was completed said it was “very good”. God, who didn’t leave his creation to make it on its own, but sustains it. Think about it. This same planet that was created at least thousands of years ago, some say millions, still functions.

The sun still rises in the East, and sets in the West. The oceans, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian and the Artic still exists. We still have water sources with which we need to live; although, sometimes we may go through periods of drought.

There are so many things in our great world to appreciate whether it is standing on the shore of the great oceans, my favorite, or staring up at the tallest trees,  or taking a gaze at the majestic mountains or seeing the rolling hills sprayed with lush green grass.

Everything that God has made was made with specific purpose and design. Even our bodies which are intricately made, were created in his image. Yes, I believe that we were created by God, not having evolved from a lower life form.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16 ESV

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:26-27 KJV

“And the LORD god formed man out of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”  Genesis 2:7 ESV

Now doesn’t that amaze you when you think about our bodies, how each part of our body has a purpose and design? I am fascinated even to this day as I discover little things about our bodies.

But more amazing than all of that is that God gave us his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. For since Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, we have been in need of a Savior. For the curse of sin made us unable to live perfectly before our righteous and just God.

So Jesus came down from heaven to live in a body that was prepared for him. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost in Mary, a  young virgin girl. Jesus Christ is God’s gift to the world because he loved us. Jesus lived a perfectly obedient life. He lived without sin and therefore able to satisfy our sin debt through his death and resurrection.  This is really the reason that we celebrate Christmas because a Savior has come to take away the sins of the world for all who believe.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 KJV

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJV

Do you need a fresh awe? Think on this.

  1. Thanks Barabra indeed GOD refreshes us with his love and mercy…”The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;his mercies never come to an end;they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
